![]() I would have ranked it higher if either they had better food (it wasn't bad, just a little overpriced & nothing really special - however, the cheese in my dish was balls of real mozarella - yum!) or if there was a little more to the "spyness" of it, like more secret rooms or something. Really, it's a fun place, so if you're looking for a "fun" meal when in Milwaukee, I suggest going. Agents must find the red door and pass a fun clearance test if they do not know the password required for entry. Providing safety to spies since 1966, SafeHouse offers refuge to all spies national and international. If you are a spy-buff, or maybe just really into Bond or Bourne, for sure check it out. SafeHouse is an iconic hidden restaurant and bar located somewhere in downtown Milwaukee. However, I was hoping for a little more in regards to the "safe house & spy" design of the building. My brother-in-law only found that by accident because (like all of us) he was playing around with everything there. There are some fun things there, including a secret exit. The servings were managable in size, though, which is nice and a big change from most other restaurants out there. We all tried some type of pasta dish I believe, so we didn't form an opinion of their steaks or other higher priced dishes. In our opinion it was a little overpriced. (Good thing we stuck around because we were almost going to leave and walk around downtown.) The food was okay. Well, I don't know if it's part of the spy games, but we were seated within 30 minutes. When we first entered we were told we'd have a 2 hour wait because we didn't have a reservation. Sometimes you have to do that, though, to appreciate all of the nuances to the building. I'm glad we were given a chance to freely do that, but we all felt a little awkward walking around and standing near people eating their meal. After our waitress took our order she suggested we walk around and check the place out. It is a maze-like building with all kinds of nooks and crannies. Once we were in the restaurant we got to see what some of the hype was about. We were greeted in a room that appeared to just be a small room. As we entered the establishment it started tantalizing our curiosity making us wonder what adventures and fun we'd experience for going to a "restaurant". I've heard about it for years including when it's been on food and travel shows. *I will not give away secrets in this review - the unknown is what makes it fun* I went with my wife, sister, & brother-in-law for the first time to the Safe House. Huh? We will think hard before we return on our next trip to town. 3 of 4 adults ordered "specialty" cocktails they the server refused to let us order another one because they need to use the same glass. The food (steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, French dip, and kids meals) were mediocre at best. Once we were seated, it took a full 17 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us, and another 10 minutes past that to get drink orders even taken. We waited 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table (right inside the door - we could see it sitting set and ready from the time we got in). The service from the front desk once we got into the actual restaurant to the server for our table was terrible. I am hoping when I took my husband, kids and friends there this visit they were just having an off night. You will be amazed.I used to go to the Safe House regularly when I was in college in Milwaukee in the late 90's. I returned to find my table was still there, waiting for my return.
